New version of DTS for Windows NT and Windows 2000

24th February 2000

A new release of the Distributed Transaction System for Windows NT is now shipping. DTS/WinNT V2.2 is a full-function DTS environment for 32-bit Microsoft® Windows operating systems, Windows 2000, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 95 and Windows 98.

Two significant enhancements to the previous version 2.1 have been introduced.

The Component Object Model support allows easy usage of all DTS services via standard Microsoft COM/ActiveX component interface. As an alternative for the traditional function library approach the component interface enables direct DTS transaction usage from completely new solution areas. For example, Microsoft Active Server Page (ASP) scripts may now directly perform DTS transactions to remote systems from HTML templates. Users of certain visual development frameworks like VisualBasic will also find the component approach more familiar and easier to use.

To bring sophisticated DTS network monitoring closer to all users of DTS Middleware the new enhanced version of the DTS Central Monitor Utility, released last December, is now packaged into standard DTS/WinNT distribution. Powerful monitoring features are now available without extra cost for even the smallest DTS networks.

DTS/WinNT V2.2 contains support for TCP/IP communications, layered directly on the standard WINSOCK 2 interface. Via DTS a Windows NT, 2000 or 95/98 system can access application services on and exchange messages with other DTS environments like different UNIXes, VMS, MPE, CICS, OS/400, OS/2...

The DTSCRYPT strong data encryption support provides DTS transactions and intersystem communication a very secure environment where business critical data may be transferred as DTS messages over insecure communication lines safely.

DTS/WinNT V2.2 uses the DTS License Authorization Key mechanism. It allows more flexible distribution of evaluation kits and software upgrades. To submit a request for a free evaluation license, please fill up the registration form.
