An enhanced DTS Central Monitor Utility
23rd Dec 1999
A completely new version of the DTSCMON utility,
a very powerful tool for monitoring of Distributed Transaction System networks,
has become available. Like the previous versions, it enables easy centralized control of DTS networks of any size.
The new implementation now fully utilises 32-bit Windows environments, parallel remote node polling via threading
and also introduces a lot of new features.
The state information of individual nodes in the networks is retrieved automatically on predefined poll
intervals and presented on the monitoring screen graphically. Detailed statistics for each node are browsable
and possible error message information is translated by the Central Monitor for easier troubleshooting.
Failing message transmission routes are indicated instantly and the operator may also analyze successful
message routes and the load distribution between distinct nodes. The state of message queues in all the
nodes of the monitored network can be seen at one glance. Terminal emulator applications
may be integrated with DTSCMON to enable easy access to remote systems for further management.
Alert functions allow more automated detection of various kinds of failures within DTS message traffic and
network connectivity and alerting can be directly integrated to external applications like general-purpose
network management systems, operator messaging etc.
The Central Monitor can also be set up to collect cumulative statistic and usability information of
monitored DTS nodes and produce reports on predefined intervals.
DTSCMON V2.0 is an implementation for 32-bit Windows environments. It is layered on top of Distributed
Transaction System for Windows NT (DTS/WinNT).
A properly installed and configured setup of DTS/WinNT is required before DTSCMON can be successfully installed
and used.
Further information about the Distributed Transaction
System product family is available.
