The roots of Distributed Transaction System
Middleware lay in the Finnish forest industry. The base concept of DTS was originally designed and built in the 1980's as a part of
a large Finnish Papermills' Association project called FIN, as Future Information Network. This project meant building
a totally new distributed international sales network for the whole Finnish paper industry. It introduced a concept of
using transparent messaging Middleware for intersystem communication between different system environments.
All this pioneer work took place almost a decade before the great usability of such technology was commonly realised world-wide.
Through the years millions and millions of DTS transactions have been executed in different kind of computing environments
in paper mills, transportation companies and sales offices around the world. Many companies have been
merged to form some of the world's largest forest industry corporations and the cover association has
been replaced by private international sales networks of each large corporation or alliance.
Within the change DTS has proven its flexibility and strength to connect very different systems
in an easy an powerful manner. In addition to the traditional sales and logistic messaging purposes
the usage of DTS Middleware has been extended to new areas as well. Such are Windows workstation-based
user applications and even Java applet solutions.
If you ever have used a product that has been made on a Finnish paper, anywhere in the world,
the possibility that that piece of paper has been ordered, sold and delivery arranged using DTS Middleware
is very high.
